Portagers win fifth straight game

ONEKAMA - January 18, 2013 - The Onekama girls basketball team won its second game in as many nights with a 54-52 win at Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Friday.

The Portagers (9-1) scored 20 points in the fourth quarter en route to their fifth straight win and Hailey Kott led the way with 25 points and five steals.

“Hailey gave us a big lift tonight,” said Onekama coach Nathan Bradford. “She really played well.”

Also for Onekama, Alexis Tribfelner had seven points, seven rebounds and nine steals, Martina Karlsdotter scored seven, Kayla Kosiboski had five points, 11 rebounds and six blocks and Hanah Gilbert had five points and eight rebounds.

Onekama trailed after the first three quarters but rallied late.

“We started out flat and it didn’t seem like we could buy a bucket,” Bradford said. “We got a little lift (in the fourth) and it seemed like the ball was going through the basket a little easier.”

The Onekama JV team beat St. Mary 36-15 on Friday. Emma Putney led the Portagers with 10 points.
