Portagers top St. Mary

ONEKAMA — The Onekama girls basketball team closed the season at home with a 64-46 non-league win on Thursday against Lake Leelanau St. Mary.

The Portagers (13-4) scored 26 points in the second quarter to turn a seven-point lead into a 21-point advantage at halftime and put away the Eagles.

Alexis Tribfelner led Onekama with 15 points, Caitlin Zielinski and Tawny Kott had eight each, Hailey Kott seven and Kayla Kosiboski seven points, five rebounds, five blocks and four steals on senior night.

“I just told the girls we need to work on coming out with better energy,” said Onekama coach Nathan Bradford. “They came out with a little more energy and worked hard on defense. Everyone got in and everyone contributed.”

The Onekama JV team beat St. Mary 49-41. Kaylor DeWitt led the Portagers with 19 points and Emma Putney scored 13.
