HART — The Brethren, Onekama and
Manistee Catholic Central golf teams were all victorious in their
matches at a West Michigan D League jamboree Tuesday at Colonial
Golf Course.
The Sabers fired the low round of the afternoon while pulling out a
168-181 win against Pentwater to open their season.
Zack Bialik paced MCC with a even-par 36 to finish as the match
medalist. Nick Kolanowski turned in a 38, Gabe Toczynski carded a 43
while Alec Bigalke and Alex Bialik tied with a 51.
“We’re pretty pleased, especially with the (No.) 1 and 2 guys,” said
MCC coach Pete Solwold. “They seem to be in mid-season form already.
"The whole outing was pretty encouraging."

Brethren, which co-ops with Bear Lake,
picked up a victory in its first match of the season by topping Mason
County Eastern 181-224. Alex
Ringel led the Bobcats with a 43, Bryson Waller had a 45, Dillon
VanderBie 46 and Dan Kasarskis 47 to round out the scorers.
“I wasn’t sure we’d get four guys in the 40s,” said Brethren coach Tom
Anderson, adding his target score was between 180 and 185. “I thought
some guys would be lower, but thought other guys would be higher.”
Onekama shot 189 in its season opener and won by forfeit because
Walkerville had only one golfer.
Alex Welch carded a 42 to lead the Portagers, Quinn Matthews shot a 44,
Derek Hobart 47 and Sean Lowe 56.
“I think it was a respectable score for the first time out,” said
Onekama coach Mary Jo Zadow. “But, all of them were talking about
improving.” |
