The Onekama volleyball
team rallied for a marathon West Michigan D League win
against Walkerville: 14-25, 10-25, 25-19, 26-24, 16-14.
Elizabeth Bergren had six kills and led the Portagers by
serving at 100 percent, Nicki Slater had 14 assists, four
aces, four kills and two blocks, Kelly Koon had six kills
and three aces while Jennica Mathieu had four kills and an
ace.

The JV Portagers split a
pair with MCC falling 25-23 and winning 25-16. Other
teams at the JV Falcon Invitational Volleyball Tourney
included Walkerville, Baldwin, Manistee Catholic and
Cadillac Heritage Christian.

The Onekama volleyball
team notched a West Michigan D League win Thursday with at
three-game sweep of Baldwin. The Portagers topped the
Panthers 25-20, 25-15, 25-17. “Everybody contributed,”
Onekama coach Sherri Slater said. “The whole team did
great.” Kelly Koon had five kills and two aces, while
teammates Nicki Slater had five kills, 18 assists and five
aces, Elizabeth Bergren had eight kills and eight aces, and
Kaylan Fitch added three kills.

A shortened lineup due
to injuries led to a pair of losses to county foes but the
Portagers were able to take care of business in a 25-23,
25-8 win over Baldwin. “I think we kind of had a problem in
the morning, just kind of waking up and getting ready really
quickly to play volleyball,” said Onekama coach Sherri
Slater. “We were missing a few people as well....”
