Portagers not willing to
go away quietly

The first Friday night basketball game of the winter season was another hard fought battle with the Portagers not willing to go away quietly.  After finding themselves down at halftime 18-24, the Portagers rallied to win the second half with everyone shooting the lights out and scoring.  Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough and the Portagers find themselves 0-2 overall, and 0-1 in the league, losing 46-50 to the Manistee Catholic Sabers.  Leading the attack were seniors Carmen Howard with 14 points, Kelsey Acker with 13 points, and Kieran O'Connor with 7 points.  Paige Rutowski and Chelsea Miller cleaned up the boards combining for 21.

Alyssa Cole and Olivia Bolthouse made some great defensive stops as they each had 4 steals.  Skin points were well distributed throughout the team with everyone averaging at least 10.

The opening week of the season leaves the Portagers feeling confident and out to prove themselves even more.  Thanks to those students and staff members who came out to cheer us on.  Your support is appreciated and your presence in the stands doesn't go unnoticed by the girls.  Come out again Thursday night as the Portagers celebrate Parent's Night and take on the Cardinals of MCE.

Keep up the great work ladies as you live the experience and enjoy the ride. ~C. Turk
