Fri 12/14 @Pentwater

Onekama loses 53-45 Friday night the Portagers traveled to Pentwater for what was finally the 1st road trip of the season.  Despite a good effort on both ends of the floor, the Portagers just couldn’t get over the hump and take charge, falling to the Falcons by a score of 53-45.  Leading the offensive attack was Kelsey Acker with 15 points, Alyssa Cole with 9 points, Chelsea Miller with 6 points, Carmen Howard, Kieran O’Connor, Paige Rutowski with 4 points, and Olivia Bolthouse with 3 points.  Leading rebounder was Paige Rutowski with 11 rebounds.  Skins were once again evenly distributed, demonstrating sportsmanship and respect for one another. Thanks to those who made the drive to show support.  J C. Turk

Wed 12/19 @ Baldwin

The Portagers traveled to Baldwin on Wednesday night looking to get win #1. And win #1 is what they walked away with, winning 41-40.  Game stats were evenly distributed with Kelsey Acker finishing with 10 pts., 7 rebounds, Chelsea Miller and Olivia Bolthouse with 8 pts. and a combined 23 rebounds.  Carmen Howard had 6 pts and 4 steals. Kieran O'Connor had 5 pts and 10 rebounds.  Paige Rutowski with 4 pts and 16 rebounds.  Skin points were lead by Chelsea Miller with 26, although her teammates were right on her tail, all finishing with at least 19.

The Portagers found themselves treading water all game and down by 3 with 54 seconds left. Senior, Kelsey Acker, followed her free throw attempt to put the Portagers down by 1.  Getting the steal on the inbound and a great pass from Chelsea Miller, Paige Rutowski made a basket underneath to put the Portagers up by one with 19 seconds left.  Carmen Howard on the defensive end came up with a huge rebound with 7 seconds left on the clock and was given the opportunity to head to the free throw line to seal the victory.  This barn burner was a great win for the Portagers who head to the Cougars of Big Rapids Cross Roads Academy this Friday for a make up game.   Thanks to those who made the travel and supported the teams.  It was a great two win night for the Onekama Girls' Program.   ~Coach Turk

Traveling to Walkerville the Portagers were looking to seek revenge, but time ran out as the Portagers were defeated 33-41.

Fri 2/15 @ Bear Lake

Playing in the last game of the regular season at rival Bear Lake, the Portagers cruised to a comfortable lead the first half, executing very well offensively.  The second half, however, proved a different story for the Lakers, playing with much more desire.  Shots began to fall and the Portagers didn’t respond back. With time ticking away and several last second opportunities warranted, the Portagers weren’t able to make the ball fall and they suffered a come from behind loss, losing 49-48.
