Portagers hold their own, but are defeated by Mesick

The Onekama J.V. Girls' Basketball team entered into tonight's contest with the intent to learn what they were capable of as a team and to prove to everyone that they were there to compete.  Unfortunately, the Portagers were outscored by the Mesick Bulldogs 53-32 in the non-conference meeting.  The Portagers held their own throughout the first quarter, only having been outscored 4-7 at the quarter buzzer.  The Bulldogs pulled away steadily during the remaining three quarters, but the Portagers didn't go down without a fight.

Leading the way on the offensive attack for the Portagers was sophomore Sherece Revolt with 14 points, followed by freshman Taylor Hagen who contributed 12 points.  Sophomores Katie Prielipp and Diamond Kimpel along with freshman Lexi Howard each chipped in 2 points apiece.  Taylor Hagen was the team leader in both steals (6) and rebounds (8) while Sherece Revolt was the leading playmaker with 5 assists.  The Mesick Bulldogs were led in scoring by Ashley Spierling who contributed 17 points.  The Portagers will next see action on Friday, November 30 on their home turf against the Chippewas of Manistee.
