District Finals
at Buckley

All season, the Onekama Portager Girls’ Basketball team had the goal of making it to the district championship.  All season they overcame great adversity to set themselves up for the post season run.   They took care of business in the semi-final beating Bear Lake 52-21, creating the opportunity for a chance at the District trophy.

Tipping off for the 3rd time this season, the Portagers knew they would have to play hard, with a lot of heart and pride for 4 quarters in order to end the season successfully, and that is exactly what they did against a very tall and good Manistee Catholic Sabers team. Despite getting down early in the 1st quarter, the team rallied in the second to be down 19-34 at the half.  The season dooming 3rd quarter allowed the Sabers to take complete control of the game and never look back.

The Portagers, however, didn’t back down, continuing to hustle, execute a brand new defense, and take some risks in their 25-60 loss.

The team believed it and wanted it when other teams might have backed down at the challenge.  Being in District Final is a great accomplishment, allowing for a great finish to a fun and memorable season.  Congratulations on the 2007-08 season ladies!
