Portagers Remain Positive After Tough Loss

Thursday night the Portagers played host to the MCE Cardinals as they also recognized their parents/guardians for parent’s night.  The visiting Cardinals, however, traveled home with a 53-38 victory, leaving the varsity Portagers 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.  There are many lessons to be taken away in preparation for Saturday’s game and others in the future.  Focusing on the positives, we had people in foul trouble play smart while other teammates stepped up and played solid allowing many pieces to stay together.  Attitudes remained positive in the end helping us to win the final quarter and almost achieve our goal.  Everyone scored again tonight.

Leading the scoring attack were Kelsey Acker 11 points and Chelsea Miller 9 points.  Chelsea and Paige Rutowski were solid underneath once again while also earning the most skin points.  Kieran O’Connor and Carmen Howard gave great effort on both ends of the floor finishing with 6 points each. Alyssa Cole and Olivia Bolthouse were aggressive in their pursuit.
The Portagers are next in action at home on Saturday, Dec. 8th, against St. Mary’s Lake Leelanau 6pm.  If you don’t feel like being cold at the Sleigh Bell Parade, stop in and show your school spirit.  Thanks to those parents and fans who came to the game.  Your support is appreciated. ~Coach Turk
