Portagers Lose a Tough Opening Game The Onekama varsity basketball team was defeated in a hard fought contest against the Marion Eagles on Tuesday night in the opening game of the season. Nick Bradford led the way for the Portagers with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Jim Kosiboski and Ryan Miller grabbed 8 and 10 rebounds, respectively. The score was knotted at 14 after the first quarter but Marion was able to go into the locker room up 38-35 at halftime. The Portagers fell behind 45-55 after three, but a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter shaved the Marion lead to three late in the game. That was as close as it got for Onekama as Marion pulled away for a 70-63 victory. The Portagers (0-1, 0-0) are in action on Friday for the much anticipated match up with Bear Lake. ~Lucas Balmer |
