With many of the teams having just the bare number of racers needed for team scores, the struggle is on to keep each member healthy for the races. Onekama/Brethren/BearLake felt that punch tonight as one of their racers became ill forcing them to race short one racer and not eligible for team scores. Individually, the girls turned in some fast times tonight and showed they are still in contention for a conference title, but Glen Lake girls still are a force to be reckoned with. Bellaire and Benzie boy's teams are still fighting it out as well.

Warm weather and recent rain made the course conditions soft and mushy, but the teams raced on......

Boys Team Overall:

  • 1st Bellaire      57 pts.
  • 2nd Benzie      60
  • 3rd Manistee    65
  • 4th MCGL      112
  • 5th Onekama  194

Boys Giant Slalom:

The boy's team suffered a couple of DNF"s tonight causing them to have to take some large scores they didn't want or need. Brethren's Garret Samsal racing for OHS led the team in GS with his 15th place finish and times of :20.87 and :20.96. Freshman Donny Olson secured 27th with :26.69 and :25.97. Jesse Ketchum ran into some trouble and did not finish his first run taking him out of contention for GS tonight. B.J. Jobbins was looking the best he has all season in GS coming in with a first run of :22.15, but he too also ran into difficulties on the mushy snow and did not finish his second run giving the team a final score of 124 for the event.

  • 1st Benzie 27 pts
  • 2nd Bellaire 29
  • 3rd Manistee 31
  • 4th MCGL 57
  • 5th Onekama 124

Boys Slalom:

Jesse Ketchum led the team effort in slalom tonight with his runs of :30.15 and :30.40 for 13th place. Garret Samsal placed 15th with his first run of :35.18 and a whopping super second run of :28.08! BJ Jobbins produced fantastic runs of :32.01 and :31.39 for 16th. Freshman Donny Olson finished 26th with :40.51 and :41.60 for a team effort of 70 points.

Girls Slalom:

  The girls were short one racer tonight, Monika Higley who was home ill, however the team raced on to earn some great placings. Dani Olson led the team in slalom with her 6th place finish and times of :30.56 and :30.72. Emily Harwell kept it close with her 8th place finish and times of  :31.85 and :31.47. Kelli Waligorski placed  16th with her times of :35.04 and :35.58.

Girls Team Slalom:

  • 2nd Manistee 37
  • 3rd Benzie  47
  • 4th Bellaire 68
  • Onekama no score

Girls Giant Slalom:

Emily Harwell edged out Dani Olson tonight by 4 one hundredths of a second to lead the team in GS with her her 8.5 placing with times of :22.17 and :22.06. Emily tied with Nicole Granger of Manistee when the combines were tallied. Dani placed 10th with her runs of :22.29 and :21.98. These gals know how to keep it exciting! Kelli Waligorski finished 15th with her times of :23.65 and :23.54.
