Conference Finals Feb. 9, 2006 |
Just
when this reporter felt secure in knowing the scoring
process for this sport, the powers that be made some
changes on how Conference Finals would be scored. It is
my understanding that this year, the Conference used the
World Cup point system. In other words, the racers earned
points for each placing and race they participated in as
far as the Conference meets for Conference medals. It
used to be that Conference race day was the only day that
counted for a medal...it either went well, or
horrible...no placings you may have earned through out
the season mattered, just that one day. This may have
worked well for some this year. However, there were
racers that missed races due to illness or family
obligations and they were saddled with 0 points for those
days hurting their final score in the Conference
standings. It is also my understanding that this process
added up to another 2 hours of calculations, so it is to
be seen if they continue with this method. The Conference Finals were held at Crystal Mt. The days tournament results are as follows. Boy's Race:
Girl's Race:
Girls GS: Maple City/Glen Lake's Ali Drake won the event with :20.48 and :20.14.Dani Olson continued to lead her team to a 4th place team effort in GS with her 8th place finish. Dani clocked :21.61 and :22.27 respectively. Emily Harwell wasn't far behind with a 14th place finish and times of :23.83 and :22.93. Kelli Waligorski kept it close with her 16th place and times of :23.16 and :23.64 while Monika slid in with :23.89 and :23.79 for 18th. Girls team GS:
Girls Slalom: Manistee's Katie Bramble won the event with :28.19 and :28.05. Dani Olson led OHS with her 5th place finish and times of :31.50 and :32.06. Emily Harwell placed 9th with :32.72 and :33.85, Kelli Waligorski 14th with 34.58 and :35.47 and Monika Higley 17th with :36.57 and :36.60 to give the team a 3rd place finish for the event with 45 pts tallied. Boy's
Slalom: Bellaire's Tom Nichols won the event with :24.33 and :24.94. Jesse Ketchum led our team with his 7th place finish and times of :29.47 and :30.05. Garret Samsal nailed 9th with his runs of :30.78 and :31.56. Donny Olson placed 26 with :39.48 and :40.34 and BJ Jobbins had a first run of :34.50 but a hike on his second run gave him a time of :47.72 for 27th. The team finished with a 69 pt effort for 5th place in the event. Boy's Team Slalom:
Boy's Giant Slalom: Bellaire's Tom Nichols won this event as well with :18.45 and :18.42. Jesse Ketchum led his team to a 4th place standing with his 16th place and times of :19.92 and :21.70. Garret Samsal took 17th with :21flat and :21.05. BJ Jobbins placed 25th with :23.18 and :22.86 and Donny Olson finished 29th with :24.6 and :24.45. Boy's Team GS:
