Oct. 20, 2005 Junior Varsity Portagers Shoot Past Freesoil 47-28
Two years ago, the Detroit Pistons won a NBA world championship based on the philosophy that hard-work pays off. After a few weeks of working hard and coming up short in the win column, the Junior Varsity Onekama Portagers defeated the Freesoil Pirates, 47-28 at home. The Portagers led after the first break, 10-7. In the second period, the Portagers came out and outscored the Pirates, 13-2 and enjoyed the intermission break with a 23-9 lead. In the third quarter, the Portagers outscored the Pirates 19-9 and in the final period, the visiting Pirates outscored the Portagers, 10-5. Leading the Portagers in scoring was Chelsea Miller with 15 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Kieran O'Connor has 11 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Stacey Keith contributed eight points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Carmen Howard added six points, six rebounds and five steals. Olivia Bolthouse four points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Paige Rutowski rounded out scoring with three points, eight rebounds,three steals and one block. Leading scorer for Freesoil was Kalie Davis with 20 points.
