The Portagers stood their ground as the Bear Lake Lakers came into Onekama Gymnasium seeking revenge, winning by a final score 65-43.
This win snapped a four game losing streak.  Now 4-9 overall, the Portagers were in good company with elementary and middle school team parents and players who were being recognized.

Teamwork was evident in many aspects of this game.  All players played unselfishly looking for each other to create and execute on offense and defense.  For the first time in two games, all players scored for the Portagers.  Three people finished with double figures.  Turnovers were limited to just 8, which is a new team record.  Rebounds were evenly distributed amongst all team members with 52 total.  The team also came up with 15 steals and 19 assists.

Ronnie Maidens led scorers with 15 points.  Kelsey Acker and Ginny Ashworth each finished with 10 points.  Bonnie Harthun had 9 points. while Marlee Herkelrath had 8 points.  Alyssa Cole chipped in 6 points and Stephanie Ashworth 4.  Ginny Ashworth led rebounds with 9 while everyone else finished with 6 to 8 boards.  Alyssa Cole led steals with 5.  She and Kelsey Acker both led in assists with 4.

The Portagers are off the rest of the week helping to rest legs and prevent further injuries.  They are next in action at home on Tuesday against Baldwin where they will defend the series from becoming tied.

Thanks to all those who helped to recognize the Bear Lake Athletic Director for her help in making the early part of our season a success.  ...Coach Turk
