After two weeks of tough competition, the Portagers come away with a loss to Brethren bruised and banged up by a score of 52-35.
Now, 3-9 overall and 3-6 in the league, the Portagers will use the last two weeks as building blocks heading into round two of teams looking to seek revenge.  The Onekama team put out a resilient effort challenging Brethren for every rebound, loose ball, and jump ball situation.  In the end, small numbers and a tight rim couldn't overcome the Brethren depth.

Ginny Ashworth led scorers with 16 points.  Many of those points came from free throws she created near the basket.  Marlee Herkelrath did a nice job on both ends of the court.   She pulled down 14 boards, drew a charge, and finished with 8 points.  Alyssa Cole had four steals and a big 3 right before the half taking us into halftime just down by seven.  Kelsey Acker and Bonnie Harthun were solid getting the ball down the floor against a very aggressive and scrappy defense.

Kelsey Acker finished with 6 points and 4 assists.  Ronnie Maidens who placed 2nd team All Conference at Wednesday's x-country meet displayed great mental and physical toughness playing through injury and tired legs.  She finished with 5 points and 3 rebounds.  Stephanie Ashworth did a nice helped to defend the middle pulling down some key rebounds.

The Portagers look forward to a only having one game next week.  The break will be a great time to rest bodies and work on some weak areas.  On Tuesday, the Portages play host to the Bear Lake Lakers.

Thanks to the nice Onekama crowd who displayed great sportsmanship and class against a very verbally aggressive Brethren crowd.  We look forward to your support on Tuesday against Bear Lake.
