The Mackinaw Bridge

The model we built was a scale model of the Mackinaw Bridge. The Mackinaw Bridge connects the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan over the five-mile wide Straits of Mackinaw, where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. Evan and Adam G. did most of the research part of the project. Ben L. and Eric were the group leaders. The rest of the group participated in painting and assembling the bridge. With towers 552 feet above the water, the Mackinaw is the longest suspension bridge in the world, and has a center span of 3,800 feet. The water depth in the middle of the bridge is 295 ft. The bridge was designed by David B. Steinman and was completed in 1957. The members of our group are Jeremy D, Ben L, Evan V, Adam W, Adam G, Tyler B, Eric S, and Ben F.

Fort Michilimakinac

We did Fort Michilimakinac for our project. We thought it would be interesting and educational for our group. It was really fun, too. The first site of Fort Michilimackinac stood on the opposite side of the Straits of St. Ignace. It was garrisoned between 1681 and 1701. No one was watching the fort. Leaving the vital straits unprotected for fourteen years. French soldiers returned to this area in 1715, and they built a new fort on the southern shores of the straits. On July 2, 1763 the Chippewa and the Sac Indians made an unsuspecting visit to Fort Michilimackinac. All Englishman was killed to taken prisoner. To find out more look it up somewhere. The members of our group are Emily K., Ashley O., Jennifer C., Emily B., and

This is a replica of Fort Michilimackina in Mackinaw City. Our group made this fort for Mr. Burthc's 8th grade history class. This fort was discovered by the French.
