March 5, 1743. My chores are to make supper, make sweaters, socks, shirts and pants for all the people on the trail, take care of the sick people in our wagon. I'm also a teacher for the kids on the trail, and sometimes I drive the wagon. An hour or two ago I fell out of the wagon. I got a broken leg so my sister had to do my chores with hers. It took her a while to get all of them done. Sometimes when bad things happen, good things can happen at the same time. At least that's what I think. ...Emily B.

March 4, 1840. We all have to go to Oregon because my husband died. We will miss him. Now before he died he gave us some cash to go to Oregon. March 5, 1840. It all started when Jessica's father fell in the well and died. We couldn't pay our taxes so they took the farm from us. So we moved to Oregon. If we were there first we could get some land. We had to buy oxen, not horses, and a wagon because we had to travel 6 months and 2,000 miles. ...Chris

May 4, 1840. We're at Acroment Hills right now. It's really a nice place. There are many buffalo, deer and bear. We can't hunt because we don't have any ammunition. We've been trading for food, but we came close to starvation. Let me tell you, it was scary. I almost forgot our best horse died today. We'll miss that one. For our children we traded corn for a puppy. He has white paws but all the rest of him is black so we named him socks. He mostly slept on our old pillows. May 20. Today was really scary. We tipped over in three rivers. We lost a few things but later we found them . It was a good thing we found some ammunition in a spare wagon. We shot every animal we saw so we would have food. Jacob could only carry back about hale. Our dog went with him and carried back a duck. The duck was brown with a green stripe. We ate the duck and it was really tender and juicy. ...Jessica
