Adding the Glaze will give each bowl a colorful shiny look.

Empty Bowl Project!

The empty bowl project was very fun. How we did it was even better! First we started by getting balls of clay and then we pinched the sides and made it shaped like a bowl. After we got done shaping it we started to put little designs on them and put coils around the edges to make it higher to fit more soup into it! Then after that was done we had to wait until next week and we also had to wait until Ms. Woolman fired them. The next week came fast, and it was time for us to glaze them with different colors. Some of the bowls had chips and cracks in them, but mine didn't have one crack in it at all! After the instructions we went and got our bowls and started glazing them but then Ms. Woolman said don't forget to put two coats on it. After all that was done we put them back onto the table and got ready to leave. Now that they are done we can see them in the showcase at the elementary section but if you don't hurry they will be taken away by someone and you won't be able to see them again. If you don't already know the admission is five dollars. Also you get to take the bowls home that are made by kids, and you get some delicious soup. So please come and hurry! ... Erin

Empty Bowl Dinner

In art class we made clay bowls for the empty soup bowl dinner. We glazed them in paint and could use them to eat out of. Everyone made their own style. I made a spoon come out of my bowl. I chose the colors green and purple. The empty bowl dinner is a fund raiser for the food pantry. The food pantry is where people donate food for poor people. I think that every town should have one. Ms. Woolman has to get a lot of clay to do this with all of her classes. At least she is doing it for a good cause. This was a very fun project to do and I hope that we can do it again. I think the most exiting part was when we were making the bowls! To do this you have to, make the bowl, let it dry, glaze it, and then fire it. It sounds confusing but it's really not. All the money that we make will go to the poor people so they can eat. You have to pay five dollars to get into the Soup Dinner, but it's worth it. I hope that we can do this again. .... Jessica

My class did an empty bowl project to sell at the empty bowl dinner so we could raise money for something it was fun to do. In art class we are working on clay bowls. There really not plain clay we have to first we had to get the clay and get a foam bowl. The foam bowl was used to shape our bowls, and then we had to make things inside the bowls like suns, and flowers. We could make little spoons with the bowl, I thought that it would be neat to make the spoon but not stick it on the bowl. But our teacher Mrs. Woolman said "No." So I didn't made a spoon but I still did like the project. ...Amber J

We made empty bowls for the soup dinner. First we had to get a piece of clay and make it into a round ball. Then we took the round ball and put our thumb in the middle and pinched it around the ball. When we were all done with the pinching part we had to let it get hard until the next art class. When we went to the next art class we glazed them. (To glaze means to paint) Know they are waiting to be eaten out of. This was a very fun project to do. (All of the money made from the dinner will go towards the needy) ...Tara

Empty Bowls

In art we made bowls for a soup giveaway. We are selling the bowls for 5.00$ and we are giving the money to the St. Joseph Church. Once they get the money for it they are going to buy supplies for the poor. First thing we did was Ms. Woolman gave us a peace of clay, a bowl and a peace of paper. Then we started to mold out the peace of clay to the shape of the bowl. Then Ms. Woolman gave us some tools to make designs in and out side of the bowl. Then over the week when we didn't have art she fired the bowls. Then we glazed the bowls in whatever colors Ms. Woolman had. Then when they dry they are all ready to be eating out of.... Joel

Our bowls are ready to be fired
