The Eighth Grade Volleyball team traveled to Big Rapids Crossroads Saturday morning for the West Michigan D tournament.  The Lady Portagers had to play their first game of the day at 10:30 am against Brethren.  The girls played extremely well and won the first game 21-9 and won the second game 21-12.

The next opponent was Mason County Eastern and the girls won two out of three games against them to advance on.  The first game they won 21-5 and lost the second game 21-13.  Then won the last game 15-11.

Then the Lady Portagers then took on Baldwin in the winner’s bracket finals and lost two very close games to them with a score of 21-15 in both games.

Now the Portagers had to go to the losers bracket and face Manistee Catholic Central.  The girls had faced them four other times this season and never beat them.  However Saturdays result came out a little different.  It took three games but the lady Portagers came out on top to advance to the championship game to face Baldwin for the second time.

The first game against MCC the lady Portagers won 21-19 and in the second game MCC won in overtime 23-21.  It came down to the last game and the lady Portagers won 15-11.

In the championship game the girls continued to play extremely well and beat Baldwin in the first game 22-20.  Baldwin battled back and won the second game 21-18 and we answered winning the last game with a score of 15-13 to win the first match.

Since the lady Panthers did not lose all day the lady Portagers had to beat them again.  However, Baldwin would win the next game 22-20 in overtime and would win the second game of the match 21-19 in an exciting finish to the day.

The lady Portagers finished the day taking second place but played extremely well.  Everyone was very proud of their effort!

  Great season ladies!
