Saturday, Jan. 10 at Brethren 10:00 | We Won! Photographs The 6th grade opened their Basketball season by traveling to Brethren to take on the Bobcats. The young Portagers came away with a 33-16 win. |
Saturday, Jan. 24 home Vs BearLake 10:00 | On the 1/24/04, the 6th grade took on the Lakers from Bear Lake at home and at the half were behind by a score of 12-24 and ended up losing by a score of 21-39 to even their season record at 1-1. Scoring for the Portagers was Thomas Koon with 11 points , Joe Kosiboski 4, Gus Lagerquist,Ryan Clouse and Brandon Blattner all had 2 points each |

Saturday, Jan. 31 Home Vs Brethren 10:00 | On Saturday 1/31/04 the Bobcats from Brethen came to the OHS gym. and in another close game the young Portagers were down by a score of 4-6 after the 1st quarter and at the half were ahead by a score of 10 to 6 and after 3 quarter the Portagers were behind by a score of 10 to 14 and lost by a close score of 16 to 20 as they now are 1-2 on the season. Scoring for the young Portagers were Chase with 3 points, Gus, Jonathon, Karl, Joe, Jordon and Cody all had 2 points each and Jake had 1 point. Photographs |
Monday, Feb. 2 at Free Soil, 5:00 PM | On Monday the
6th grade went to Freesoil to take on the Pirates. The
Portagers came back from being down by a score 1 to 14 to
lose by a final score of 17 to 18. Next game at home on Saturday 2/07/04 against Walkerville |
Monday, Feb. 16 home Vs Pentwater | The Penwater
Falcons flew up to the OHS gym to take on the 6th grade
boys. AT the end of the first quarter our young boys were
behind by a score of 0-10 and at the half the young
Portagers were able pull just about even and were behind
only by a score of 10-11. In an exciting 4th quarter, the
Portagers had a chance to pull even, but at the end they
came up just short and lost a good ball game by a score
of 21-23. They saw their record go to 1 and 4 Scoring for
the Portagers were Gus with 8 points, Chase added 7,
Jake, Joe, and Thomas all had 2 points each. Photographs The 5th and 6th grade Cheerleaders were there to cheer the boys on and did a very good job with their cheers. |

The 6th grade
they went to Brethren today to take on the host team the
Brethren Bobcats at 9:00 a.m in the first game of the WMD
tournament. Neither team could get the ball to go through
the nets in the first quarter as the score was tied 2-2
after one quarter but in the second quarter the Portagers
started to get the ball to go in and took a 14-4 lead at
the half and in the second half the Portagers held the
Bobcats off in the 4th quarter to win by a score of 24-17
Leading the Portagers were Chase , Gus and Thomas all
with 6 points and Brandon added 4 points and Cody put in
2 points as the Portagers advanced in the tournament to
take on Freesoil at 11:00 a.m In their 2nd game on Saturday against the Freesoil Pirates both teams got 4 points in the 1st quarter, but in the second quarter the Portagers got ahead and led at the half by a score of 11-8 and in the 3rd quarter the Portagers held the Pirates scoreless to take a 15-8 lead. In the final quarter each teams scored 2 points and the Portagers came away with a 17-10 win over the Pirates to advance to the Championship game next Saturday at Brethren at 10:00 a.m against the Pentwater Falcons whom the Portagers lost to a week ago at Onekama by a very close score of 21-23 so it should be a good game to watch. Leading the Portagers in scoring against the Pirates was Chase burning the nets for 8 points. Joe added 4, Gus put in 3 points on free throws and Karl had 2 points. Good Luck 6th grade in your Championship game next Saturday at Brethren. Teams in the Tournment are Pentwater, Brethren, Onekama, Freesoil and Walkerville. |

On Saturday the 2/28/04 the 6th grade boys Basketball team traveled to Brethren to play Pentwater in the WMD conference Championship game at the end of the 1st quarter the young Portagers were down by a score of 5-8 and at the half the Portagers trailed by a score of 7-14 and in the second half the Portagers couldn't get many baskets to fall in while it seemed like Pentwater couldn't miss and the Portagers ended up losing by a score of 14 -34 to take 2nd place in the league tournament and should get a plaque or trophy later on. Scoring for the Portagers was Chase,Thomas and Joe all with 4 points each and Jake added 2 points. Congratulation 6th graders on good season and also to the Coaches Mr. Steve Kosiboski and Mr. Tom Koon for a job well done and to all the fans and cheerleaders for their support through out the season. ...Dennis Zupin Photographs |
