ONEKAMA — Nathan Bradford had been waiting for his team to play a complete game.

The Onekama girls basketball coach said he finally got his wish on Tuesday as the Portagers rolled to a 66-40 West Michigan D League win against Brethren.

“We finally played a solid four quarters,” he said.

Freshman Hailey Kott hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points to lead the Portagers (5-7, 4-5 WMD).

“My hat goes off to Hailey Kott,” said Brethren coach Julie Riggs, noting the outside shooting. “She did the damage to us in the first half.”

Onekama’s Jennica Mathieu had 14 points and seven rebounds while Danielle Ward chipped in 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

The Portagers held a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and 40-24 advantage at halftime en route to the win.

“We came out offensively very well,” said Bradford, whose team also finished 15-for-18 from the free throw line.

Lexi Lakso had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (7-5, 5-3 WMD), Annie MacNeil scored 11 to go with seven rebounds and three blocks while Elana Hickok had eight points.

With three losses in their last four games, Riggs said something has to change.

“It’s like we’re going the other way,” she said. “We’ve got to find ourselves and who we truly are. This wasn’t us.”

The Onekama junior varsity team beat Brethren 44-18. Kayla Kosiboski led the Portagers with 13 points.
