ONEKAMA — The Onekama boys basketball team posted its biggest point total of the season in a 79-50 West Michigan D League rout of Pentwater on Friday night.

Quinn Matthews hit four triples and led the Portagers with 19 points to go with five assists and four steals, Kyle Acker had 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, Derek Hobart scored 11 while Curtis McKenney and Joe Eno each netted eight.

It’s the the first time this season the Portagers (4-13, 3-11 WMD) have won back-to-back games and is their third win in the last four. Onekama coach Jim Hunter said team depth and fresh legs were key.

“Tonight it really did make a difference,” he said. “We had two to three guys getting out on breaks when they only had one back. Everyone was running tonight.”

Onekama went into halftime with a 36-33 lead and outscored the Falcons (6-12, 5-10 WMD) 24-4 to blow the game open. The Portagers only committed 12 turnovers in the game.

“For us, that was a major change,” Hunter said.

The Onekama JV team beat Pentwater 59-34. Jarett Sovereign led the Portagers with 25 points.
