Portagers swept

MESICK — The Onekama baseball team dropped a pair of games to Mesick on Thursday, falling 11-1 in the five-inning opener and dropping the nightcap 17-10.

“It was very tough,” Onekama coach John Neph said of the doubleheader. “They are a very good ball club.”

Onekama’s Nolan Miller took the loss on the mound in the opener, while teammates Stephen Verrett, Nick Osborn and Morgan Ledford each had a hit to lead the Portagers (4-11-2).

In the nightcap, both teams put the bat on the ball as the contest was tied at 10-10 after four innings. Mesick pulled away, however, in the final pair of frames.

“We played with some energy in the second game,” Neph said. “We scored some runs, so that was a positive.”

Onekama’s Nick Osborn had three hits in Game 2 while Joe Eno had a double with four RBIs.
