TRAVERSE CITY — Manistee wrestling coach
Chris Codden gave his team a choice before Wednesday’s Mid-Michigan
Wrestling Conference opener in a tri-meet at Traverse City Central.
“I basically told the kids at the start of the meet that there was
two things we could have done tonight,” he explained. “We could have
either been in the driver’s seat or be in the passenger seat.”

With a 57-15 win over host TCC and a 40-37
win over Benzie Central, it looked like the Chippewas grabbed the keys.
“These were huge victories,” Codden said.
"Benzie is bar none one of the toughest team we face year-round. "We
were just very fortunate tonight to have wrestlers match up well against
theirs and we won the match that I thought could have gone either way."
Manistee’s Alex Meyers (112), Jon Bailey
(119), Haydon Codden (135) and Lane Gancarz (145) all went 2-0 on the
night, while Travis Meyers (125), David Engstrom (130), Brian Fisk
(140), Tucker Bruce (152), Nate Leino-Jones (160), and Dakota Girard
(189) all saw victory against TCC while Nic Carter (152), Noah Blauwkamp
(215) and Alex Waterman earned wins against Benzie. |
