01/15/11 Kingsley (tournament) The Manistee wrestling team finished Saturday’s five-team invitational in Kingsley with a 2-2 record. The Chippewas topped Shepherd (46-21) and Hart (42-30) and dropped their matches to Traverse City St. Francis (47-21) and host Kingsley (44-36). Haydon Codden (135) and Dave Engstrom (130) each went 4-0 on the day to lead Manistee. Dennis Swiatlowski (189) and Lane Gancarz (145) each went 1-0; Nic Carter (140), Alex Waterman (215) and Raul Torres (heavyweight) each went 3-1; Jon Bailey (119) went 2-1; Alex Meyers (112), Travis Meyers (125) and Tyler Knudsen (189) each went 2-2; and Zach Nezki went 1-1. 01/22/11 Petoskey The Division 3 Chippewas surged through the morning competition — all Division 2 schools — by topping Grand Rapids Catholic Central (42-35), Ogemaw Heights (42-34) and Petoskey (56-19). 01/29/11 SHELBY — The Manistee wrestling team went 3-2 on the day to take fifth place out of 12 teams at Shelby on Saturday. The co-op Chippewas defeated Lakeview (48-33), Ludington (72-18) and Grant (42-33), and lost to Shelby (72-6) and Kenowa Hills (56-18). “To go up against a quality team like Grant was huge,” Manistee coach Chris Codden said of the win. “It speaks volumes about where our team can go.” Alex Meyers (112/119 pounds), Haydon Codden (135), Nic Carter (140) and Raul Torres (heavyweight) all finished 4-1 to medal for the day.
