LEROY — The Manistee wrestling team went
1-4 in a six-team tournament at Pine River on Saturday.
The Chippewas, who were missing a couple of starters, defeated Mio
48-33, and lost to Traverse City St. Francis (40-37), Pine River
(51-24), Kingsley (57-24) and Midland Dow (36-33), which went on to
win the tournament.
“It’s good inspiration for me and the staff and the kids to know
that if we would have been at full strength at this tournament we
probably could have walked away with a few more wins,” said Manistee
coach Chris Codden. “Nobody blew us out of the water. We basically
held our own through the whole tournament.

"I take my hat off to the younger kids. They
did a really got job this weekend." Six Manistee wrestlers took home
metals as both Haydon Codden and Larryn Kukla bot finished the day 5-0,
while Sean Stenzel, Alex Myers, David Engstrom and Raul Torres all went
3-2. Logan Bond (125) went 1-0, Lane
Gancarz (145), Tyler Knudsen (189) and Zach Nezki (171/189) all finished
1-1, Tucker Bruce (152/160) was 2-3, Jon Bailey (119) and Travis Meyers
(125) both finished 1-3, Noah Blauwkamp (215) and Kyle Garber each went
1-4, Christian Bullis (119), Brian Fisk (125), Stephen Schulte (145)
and Dakota Girard (189) were all 0-1, Nathan Wallace (145) and Adam Ball
(171/189) were both 0-2 while Brenna Ramirez (160) finished 0-3. |
