Onekama vs. MCE
Game 13
February 24, 2011
Lady Portager basketball wrapped up the regular season
with a conference match-up against the Lady Cardinals. In their
previous meeting the Cardinals went away with the win, but only after
pulling ahead in the final couple minutes of the contest. The girls
demonstrated intensity and desire going into the game and looked forward
to the rematch.
Both teams started out in an offensive slump and for us
it was starting to look like we wouldn’t be able to buy a basket once
again. Things picked up in the second quarter and the baskets began to
fall. The second quarter would prove to be the deciding factor in the
contest as the Cardinals outscored us 13-6. We would end the third and
fourth quarters outscoring them, but not enough to close the gap and the
Cardinals won by a score of 39-30. |
Elizabeth led the Portagers in scoring with 9 points, 5
of which came from the free throw line which she was very excited
about. Kaitlin was next finishing with 6 points. Faith finished with 5
points, 3 of which came from her first 3 pointer of the season. Nisha
added another 4 points to her total and Kaylan, Sami and Sierra Warner
each finished the game with 2 points.
Elizabeth also led the team defensively finishing with 10
rebounds and 5 steals. Kaylan grabbed 5 rebounds had a steal and a game
high 2 blocks. Nisha finished with 3 rebounds and a steal. Sami and
Sierra each pulled in a rebound and Sami also finished with a steal.
Kaitlin added 2 steals and Faith finished with 1 steal.
Everytime you lose it is hard to swallow, but wins and
losses don’t make the season. Being a part of athletics is about more
than your win-loss record. It is about being part of a team, doing your
best and having fun at what you’re doing. I am very proud to have
coached this group of young ladies and look forward to watching them as
they move forward. Thanks for a wonderful season.
Go Portagers!
