Portagers fall to Cougars
ONEKAMA — Big Rapids Crossroads Charter Academy ran away from Onekama
Thursday night with a 74-45 West Michigan D League win.
“We didn’t play that bad,” Portagers coach Roger Smith said. “They were
just too quick and tough for us.”
Onekama (3-8, 3-7 WMD) played the Cougars tight in the first quarter, as
the Portagers trailed by only one heading into the second at 13-12. But,
CCA (10-3, 8-2 WMD) held Onekama to just six points before halftime
while putting up 17 of their own. |
The Cougars were able to hit 11 3-pointers
throughout.
“We couldn’t stop the threes,” Smith said.
“They’re a good ball club.”
Onekama was led by Skyler Kimpel with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Joe Kosiboski scored 14 with 10 boards.
Also for the Portagers, Ryan Pienta scored six points, while Jake
Matthews and Austin Barnett each scored four.
The Onekama junior varsity team topped the Cougars, 57-33. Quinn
Matthews led the Portagers with 17 points. |
