Manistee News Advocate report— The Manistee
High School cooperative ski teams continued their winning ways Tuesday
afternoon, as the boys and girls teams easily posted first place
finishes in Lake Michigan Ski League competition.
The girls team posted a nearly-perfect score
of 21 (20 would be perfect) to top Benzie (71), Bellaire (155), Glen
Lake (168), and Onekama (308). The boys also outpaced the competition
with 32 points, followed by Benzie (86.5), Bellaire (88), Glen Lake
(151), and Onekama (252).
“The kids skied real well, it didn’t seem
like the temperature mattered,” said coach Dick Totch, adding that it
was about 12 degrees at Crystal Mountain. “It was snowing hard, in fact
it snowed all afternoon, but the course held up real well.”
For the girls’ team Katie Bramble finished
first in both the slalom (45.32) and giant slalom (35.7), Kari Paine was
second in both events (46.34 and 36.23), Nathalie Kenny was third in

“I am extremely pleased with how things
are going,” Totch said. “It’s always fun when you win, and it’s hard to
have a bad time when you’re skiing well.”
For Onekama, Donny Olson placed 16th in
the slalom (59.39) and 18th in the giant slalom (41:08), while Truman
Lee was 27th in both the slalom (1:16.14) and giant slalom (56.78).
Totch said the team continues to work on
improving, and in that vein, will be spending this weekend at Marquette
Mountain in the Upper Peninsula to prepare for the state meet that will
be held there. |
