“It was a very gutsy performance by our guys tonight who kept fighting back in the game and finally were able to pull it out in the end” –Coach Neph

Onekama wins doubleheader over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy!!

The Onekama Portager baseball team earned a hard-fought double header sweep over the Cougars of Big Rapids Crossroads Academy last night.  It was Onekama winning game one by the score of 10 to 2.  Jim Kosiboski was the winning pitcher as he allowed only 2 runs while pitching all 6 innings.  Hunter Slade, Jim Kosiboski, Ryan Miller and Alex Block each had two hits to pace the offensive attack.

The Portages trailed the entire second game until pulling out a 12 to 11 victory in game two.   The game started out with a bang for the Cougars who scored 8 runs in the first inning!  The Portagers came back with 5 runs in their half of the first to cut the lead to 3.  The score went back and forth throughout the game until the bottom of the 5th inning, when the Portagers, trailing by one run, got two on a double from Hunter Slade to drive in Thomas Koon and Jim Kosiboski to win the game.  The game was called due to darkness in the fifth inning.

The game was a homecoming for Assistant Coach Ken Franklin who returned to the same field he played on for the Ferris State University Baseball team in the 1960’s.
