Bear Lake Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams Headed for State!

Boys Earned 1st place and Regional Trophy
 Girls Received 2nd place

 

On a very cool and windy afternoon at Benzie Central High School the Regional Cross Country Div. 3 and 4 were held. Up at 2:00 p.m. was the first race of the afternoon which was Div. 4 boys  our Bear Lake/ Onekama boys were ready to go at the shot of the gun at 2:00 p.m. with the wind settling down just a bit before there race.

As the race got going Nick Swisher moved out into 1st and held that spot for the rest of the race as Nick Finished 1st overall out of 61 runners with a time of 16:54. Is 1st place finish helped the Bear Lake/Onekama team take 1st place overall with a total of 37 points and bring home the Regional trophy.  1st Bear Lake 37points; 2nd Hart 52 points; 3rd McBain 68 points; 4th Mason County Eastern 79 points; 5th Traverse City St.. Francis 109; 6th Sutton Bay 172 points; 7th Maple City-Glen Lake 180 points and 8th Marion with 229 points.

All seven of these runners will run at State next weekend.  Congratulation Dal Townsend and runners for being Regional Champions and Good Luck at State. It will be the final high school race for senior Nick Swisher. On Monday in the Conference Final Meet Senior Nick Schmoke and
Donovan Alkire will be running their last race.  Good Luck in the Future and thanks for the memories on the Cross Country Trails you have run.

The wind was blowing harder for the Bear Lake/Onekama Girls race  at 3:30.
These young ladies ran strong today and finished 2nd overall to qualify for State next week. Finishing 1st as a team was Traverse City St. Francis with 46 points; 2nd Bear Lake 70 points; 3rd Maple City- Glen Lake 78 points; 4th Mason County Eastern 81 points; 5th McBain 116 points; 6th Hart 136 points and 7th Manton 147 points.

Congratulation to Coach Kelly Schultz and  runners in there 2nd place finish. Good Luck at State next week end. This will be Senior Ronnie Maidens last Cross County Race. Good Luck in the Future Ronnie.  The top 3 teams in each Division and the top 15 runnners also qualify for State plus receive a Regional Medal.

Congratulations to the State Bound Bear Lake / Onekama Boys and Girls as they will be leaving for the State meet Friday morning and then run Saturday morning at Michigan International Speedway.

Congratulation Junior High Boys on a great season.
Three of the boys Ryan Pienta, Tyler Groenwald, and Cody Graf have been selected and will be running as part of the elite 8 runners of Northern Michigan by a team named the Traverse City Flyboys Cross County Team at Center Line, Michigan on Sunday November 5th. Congratulations boys.
