Round two, the Panthers met up with tough competition. The only win posted in the round came from a pin by Pettit. Pettit bested his next opponent in the finals 13-9 to earn 1st place for the 152 lb Junior. Third time was the charm for Rafferty and Johnson. Tony Cepeda of Petoskey lasted 40 seconds against Johnson. Rafferty posted a pin in 2:10 over Ryan Conklin of Manistee. Cole won handily over Josh Renshaw TC Central 10-2 to earn a spot in the finals. One more win for Johnson placed him in the finals against Rafferty. After 3 periods tie score resulted. Rafferty one by take down rules for 3rd, Johnson earned a 4th. The final round for Cole pitted him again with Denboer. Denboer won by pin netting Cole the 4th place medal. "I was very pleased with the whole team," said coach. "These guys worked hard over Christmas break to keep up the fight"

Frankfort Invitational
January 8, 2005

Frankfort high school was host to 12 area schools in the annual wrestling invitational. At day's end, the purple and gold held 4 medals in 3 weight classes. "The double elimination format kept our guys busy", said Coach Irv Pettit.

In the round one rattail, Tommy Johnson (F) 145lb pinned Robert Sasz of Kingsley in 29 seconds. At 160 lb, Mike Cole won by decision 8-7 against Matt Denboer. "This was a great win for Micheal. Denboer had bested him earlier in the week at our Mancelona meet." added Pettit. Regular round one action posted a win for Rj Rafferty, 145 lb, by technical fall beating his opponent 17-2.Brandon Pettit earned a pin in 30 seconds on the mat.

R.J. Rafferty met his own teammate Tommy Johnson for 3rd place finish in the 145 weight class and and the match went in to overtime with R.J. Rafferty taking 3rd and Tommy Johnson 4th both got medals. As the official is rising R.J. hand declaring him the winning in a very close match. In the Left corner his Brandon Pettit watching as waiting for his finals match to start.
