Onekama Golf Team Places 12th at Regionals!

Oct. 8, 2004

Why the excitement you ask? The team finished with a team score of 418 for 12th place out of 17 schools. The scoring was tight and close between teams. They had one member competing who produced a personal best and what better event to do that at then Regionals! Nathan Griswold shot a 43 on the front 9 and 47 on the back 9 for 92 for the day to be Low man for OHS. Nathan actually shot a 90, but the playing partner from another school scored him wrong and Nathan signed it. Once it is signed, you have to keep the score. Jordan Pomeroy shot 47 and 52 for 99 for the day and Todd Lyman ended with 58 and 54 for 112 for the 18 holes. Tim Veverica was our man who produced a Personal Best on the front 9 with 52. He shot 63 on the back 9 giving him 115 for the day. Chris Smith, not feeling well at all today, shot a 53 on the front nine and 66 on the back for 119.

The match was held on Wolverine at Grand Traverse Resort and it is a few hundred yards longer than what most teams are accustomed to, teeing off from the blue tee markers. TC St. Francis won the team event with 302, Suttons Bay's team shot 311 for second and MCC's team came in with 341for 3rd. Those are the three schools going on to the State competition. Match Medalist/Champion was Don Kring of TC ST. Francis who shot 68 for 4 under Par. Ennis from MCC shot a 74. Only the 5 lowest scorers go on to State as Individuals along with the 3 lowest scoring teams.

Golf Schedule for 2004

Sports Schedule for 2004-2005

OHS closes their season with 10-5 in the Conference for a tie for 2nd place. They were 4-7 in Non League play and 14-12 overall in Dual Meets.

The team only loses one senior this year, so the majority of their experienced team will be back next year. They are climbing the ranks fast and if anyone is interested in being on board for the climb to the top, you may contact Coach Zadow or any Golf Team member.

The awards banquet will be held in a couple of weeks and keep your ears open for the possibility of scramble between the team members and possibly the Faculty if the weather holds.

I want to thank Coach Zadow for all her help with the info for the Team's website. She took the extra time to help me get the stats out there and took photos when i wasn't available. She instills honesty, dedication and perfection in her members. The kids couldn't ask for a better Coach to work with for Golf! Thank you also to our Webmaster , Barb, who gets up at 4:30 a.m. to download and then upload all the photos and text for this team and everything else. Last but not least, Thank you OHS Golf Team for a great season. It has been my pleasure reporting for you and I am glad I was there to cover your strides forward as you climbed the ranks, beating MCE a few times this year and then Winning the Conference Jamboree at the Heathlands giving Brethren/BearLake their only loss for the Season in the conference. You are a great bunch of Golf enthusiasts/athletes! Now let's see...it's a whack when?! and a Swat where?! *wink*
