On Wednesday, March 3, fifth
graders began the eight week session of Operation Fit Kids, taught by
Dorothy Batzer, sponsored by West Shore Hospital. The students received
their Fit Kids packets, and each received a pedometer to track the steps
they take during the school day. Teams will work together to try to
take enough steps to “visit” the Galapagos Islands. The students are
also keeping track of the foods they eat, and learned an exercise
routine.
Fit Kids was fun. I won an
award for walking the most steps. I also got an award because the
blue team had the most steps. I got two cookbooks, a squeeze ball,
a yoga tape, and a bandage holder. The blue team had a lot of
steps. I had a lot of fun! ~Michele
I really liked the Fit Kids
program. I liked walking to the Galapagos Islands. It was a lot of
fun. We got to use pedometers. Our class had a party for Fit
Kids. It was a lot of fun. ~Matt
Over eight weeks, the Onekama
fifth grade class had Fit Kids. Fit Kids is a program that teaches
fifth grade students the importance of eating right and exercising.
I liked Fit Kids because we got to wear pedometers to count our
steps. The cool part was the virtual trip to the Galapagos
Islands. To make it to the Galapagos Islands your team has to have
a certain amount of steps. The team who won was the blue team. Fit
Kids was very cool. Thanks Mrs. Batzer! ~Kyle

I think Fit Kids was really
fun! My favorite part of Fit Kids was wearing the pedometers every
day. I also really liked at the end when we had a party. I liked
the mango sherbet. We went on a virtual trip to the Galapagos
Islands. All but one team got to go there and back. I really
enjoyed the experience of being in Fit Kids. ~Robert
