April 29th was an exciting day because our chicks had begun hatching!
Mr. Zupin's Notes: The first thing this morning I went in to check the eggs. Six baby chicks, 3 white and 3 black, had hatched.  I took a few pictures  for the website.

When I returned to school at 3:00 PM there was 20 baby chicks with a few more ready to hatch. Mr. Kudlack said he took some pictures during the day. (these photos will be added to the website.)

It sounds like Mr. Kudlack's room was full of excitement all day.  Mr. Kudlack said the little chicks pecked the lid off the incubator at different times . The students were able to watch the chicks peck their way out of the shell. The youngsters were amazed as they watched the chick pop out of the egg. At first they were all wet.  Mr. Kudlack put each wet chick in the glass aquarium to dry. The aquarium is equipped with the heat lamp, feed, sand and water.  ~Dennis Zupin

Mr. Zupin's Notes:

This  pictures is of Mr. Kudlack  by his bulletin board with the 21 different stages of the chicken eggs before they hatch. These were hand drawn by Jessica Rick when Jessica was a Senior at Onekama in 2004-2005. Mr. Kudlack uses these every year to show his students how the chicks develop..

This year the P.T.O donated a bag of chicken feed to feed the baby chicks. It cost $14.00
