First Grade Parent Letter
December 1, 2005

Dear Parents,

We’ve began a new reading unit called "Get The Giggles." It includes stories called On Top Of Spaghetti, The Foot Book, and The Lady With The Alligator Purse. Also poems by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. Over the next few weeks, you will see four books come home: On Top Of Spaghetti, Where Is My Baby?, Hank and Lin, and Fox and Chick. These books will include new vocabulary words. Enclosed is a copy of those words.

Christmas is just around the corner. You may want to add a few items to your shopping list: personal items, party supplies, clothing, and a book for our Christmas book exchange.

Once again Onekama PTO along with Onekama Lions Club and National City Bank has organized "The Giving Tree" to help families in our school. These families would like to remain anonymous; as I am sure you can understand. The trees located in the atrium. Each tree has many tags on it. Some tags have shirts, coats, boots, shoes, food (peanut butter, mac & cheese, etc), and personal items (shampoo, soap, etc). If you would like to help, then please come to school and choose a tag. Please check in with the office with your tag(s) so they can keep track of them. All items need to be wrapped and turned into the elementary office by Thursday, December 22nd. The office will put a name tag on it at that time.

I would like our class to support the Giving Tree Project. We will collect personal items. I’ll purchase a large plastic tote. Students need to bring in any personal items such as shampoo, hand soap, bar soap, body soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, dish soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, etc. Please send in all items by Wednesday, December 21st.

Our Christmas party is on Thursday, December 22nd at 12:20 — 3:00 p.m. Angela/Troy Gauthier, Amy Fitch, Jane/Steve Hall, Gail Hopwood and Helen Johnson are helpers. Patty Acker, Angela/Troy Gauthier, Gail Hopwood and Lynn Peterson will provide treats. Gail Hopwood will provide the drinks. Patty Acker will provide cups and plates. Each child is responsible for bringing a new wrapped book with a nametag for the Christmas book exchange. The book should not cost more than $3.00.

For our Christmas party art centers I am still in need of a few items: 4 large jars of cinnamon, 3 large jars of apple sauce, 15 round red, green or clear plastic shower-curtain rings, 4 - red or green narrow ribbon spools, 15 — 2 _" self-sticking felt pieces and 4 sheets of green tissue paper.

Our annual Christmas program will be held on Wednesday, December 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Your child needs to arrive to school at 6:45 p.m. in the classroom dressed in his/her Christmas best. Girls are invited to wear dresses and boys are invited to wear dress shirts and dress pants.
