Yesterday in science we [my classmates and I] observed how strong eggs shells were. So to find out we piled journals on top of them. Some of us ran out and had to use science books instead. It was really fun. Drews group destroyed theirs. After that we soaked them in vinegar for five minutes. After that we soaked them over night. When we came back the next day they were mush, the reason that is because vinegar dissolved the calcium in the egg. It was cool. .....By Braeden, |
The Egg and Us

The egg project we did in science was to see how many journals 4 eggshells can hold. I was in a group with Olivia and Travis. Our eggshells only held 16 journals. The class weighed the science books and said that each science book adds up to 5 journals. Paige, Kaylyn, and Mary had 23 journals. That was the record of the class. After the eggshells broke we scooped them into a cup with vinegar and let them sit over night. The next day we took them off the counter and looked to see what happened over night. We stuck our hands in to feel them and they were all soggy. Erin
What will the egg shells look like after soaking all night in vinegar? Did you know egg shells had calcium in them? Did you know vinegar is a weak acid? |
In my group there was Kaylayn, Mary and me, Paige. We had 23 journals on our eggs. It was the most in our class. We were putting on the 24 journal when the eggs broke. I think we could have had a lot more. This experiment was really really fun. I wish we could do it again. By Paige In science, we
did a fun experiment about the strength of eggshells. We
cracked lots of eggs in half, and each group got four
half eggshells. We put them in the shape of a square and
put as many books as we could on top of them until they
broke. One group of kids got 24 journals on the
eggshells! |
We ran out of
books so we had to go get some more. Then we got 16
journals on them it was really fun. The egg started to
crack so we hurried and put some more on them then they
cracked and broke.
