Onekama High School students collected and tested water samples from Portage lake. Information gathered is used to monitor the quality of the Lake's water and is an ongoing project in its eighth year. Students take part in six different tests: water clarity, pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a count, total phosphorus count, and temperature profile. Mr. Hughes, elementary principal and charter captain extraordinaire, takes the students and the instructor out to three testing sites in the spring and fall. The following pictures were from the spring field trip.

The "crew" for the spring testing: Ashley Bradford, Jessica Conroy, Ernie Jones, Jeremy Miller, Kim Edens, and Amanda Johnson.
