Breaking the mold from previous years,
the Varsity Girls Basketball team went where no other
team had gone before...semifinals. Ending the season on a six game road trip
seemed to be fitting for this year's team. Starting out
the season proved a challenge for the girls with the
construction on the school and the gym not being
available. Holding practices everywhere from the gym in
Arcadia to West Shore Community College to Brethren High
School, made it tough on the girls, yet they pulled
through. The first ten games were on the road, however,
the girls finished the road trip with a 7-3 record. The
remaining games of the regular season were all at home
where the pep band, the crowd, and the cheerleaders
showed their support. |
The tournament run for the team this year proved
to be a first for girls basketball. The girls were
victorious in districts for a third year in a row, taking
home the championship trophy. Their first ever regional
win served as the stepping stone they needed to become
regional and then quarterfinal champs. The road trip
ended at a much deserved place, the state semifinals at
CMU. The girls fell to Harper Woods Bishop Gallagher, the
eventual Class D state champions. Even though the defeat
was somewhat depressing, it wasn't because they had lost,
it was because a season that had had many wonderful
moments was over. ...D.French |
