Mr. Dan Salyer |
Hello Onekama students and
parents.
I would like to take this opportunity to
introduce myself. I come to Onekama with 13 years of
educational experience. I received my bachelors degree
from Western State College in beautiful Gunnison Colorado
and am working on my masters in counseling at Central
Michigan University. I began my career in Colorado as a
high school math teacher, football and wrestling coach. I
worked 3 years with inner city youth in Wichita, Kansas.
I spent 6 years at a small K-12 school in rural Alaska.
In Alaska, I had the opportunity to teach everything from
middle school P.E. to welding and woods to calculus. In
an effort to reconnect with our family, my wife and I
moved to Algonac, Michigan. There I worked 3 years with
freshman students, teaching math and coaching. Because of
my background in Alaska, I have worked with curriculum
alignment and alternate forms of student assessment. Now in Onekama, with family just 45 miles down the road, I look forward to starting a new career. I feel I bring a wealth of experience to this position. I look forward to serving Onekama students and parents and hope you always find my door open. If you have questions regarding school programs of a professional or personal nature, don't hesitate to call on me. If I don't know the answer, I'll do my best to find it. |
