Mrs. Goins

After leaving college in 1980 I traveled to Arizona, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Florida to work in a variety of fields, marry, and start a family. In 1990, I decided to return to school to obtain an education degree. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida in December 1993. Following my graduation and the birth of my second child that same year, my family and I moved to Barre, Vermont where I taught third grade for one-year then sixth grade for two years following. In December of 1998, I relocated to Onekama after much determination to return “home” after 20 years. I am happy to now be teaching 6th grade in the school that holds so many fond memories for me.

Teaching is a career that brought me a sense of fulfillment after working in a variety of fields that seemed to leave a void. After much soul searching, I decided that teaching would fit my personal strengths and enable me to create a safe and rich environment for students to learn. My goal is to help students identify and recognize their personal strengths, help them to achieve at their level of learning, and recognize their personal successes. As I get to know students, I look for the times that they are most enthusiastic, then try to build on that enthusiasm. When I find a student that is angry or defiant, I am most challenged to motivate them. I believe that all people learn and achieve at different levels and in different areas of study.
