Happy Chinese New Year!

Gong xi fa cai! This is the year of the rabbit. We celebrated Chinese New Year by starting the day by “sweeping out the old and welcoming in the new.” Later we painted a dragon. The dragon is a symbol of strength and goodness. It is believed that what happens on this day will decide what your luck will be for the rest of the year. After lunch we made masks to represent a dragon. We ended the day with snacks of red apples and oranges. Red apples are a symbol of good luck. Oranges are a symbol of good fortune. A few days later Mrs. Lagerquist shared her experience as an exchange student in Japan.
