Harriet Quimby

Historical Marker Dedication
May 25, 2000

Onekama Sixth Grader, Kayla Peabody, sang "I Believe I Can Fly". She wore an exact duplicate of Miss Quimby's flight suit.

The Pledge of Allegiance was given by the VFW Color Guard.

Onekama's High School Band provided the music

A Reception and Book Signing was held at the Arcadia Elementary School. Thank you Arcadia Ladies.

Cody Brandt, winner of the cancellation stamp competition, assisted the Postmaster in stamping the envelopes.

The cake was decorated to show the stamp designed by Cody Brandt. It shows Quimby's flight across the English Channel. Sugar cookies cut out in the shape of airplanes were also served.

Author Ed Hall was kept busy signing books.

Al Hughes welcomed the crowd to the Quimby Dedication Ceremony and read letters from Michelle Engler and Gerard Pahl of the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum. Al is holding a propeller.
