Project Netgap

Service Learning Project

Project Netgap is a multi-level, intergenerational service learning project aimed at reducing the generation gap in the Onekama Consolidated School District communities

In the first phase of the project, 18 junior high school students mentored senior citizens in Technology. These same seniors are back for the second phase where our 280 K-6 grade population will collect oral history data. This data will then be sent to 40 senior high school students who will develop and publish the community oral histories.

As part of our Pre-training we drew team pictures of senior citizens...Katherine, Jordan, Justin, Tim

We brainstormed a list of things that might affect a senior citizen on the inside and outside of thier bodies...Jared, Trevor, Nathan, Marlee

We brainstormed a list of question to ask our guest about the past...Travis, Tayler, Hunter

Mrs. Peabody our coordinator helped answer our questions...Ronnie, Stephanie, Kelli

Our Oral Historian is Mr. Beauvais

Greeters for the day were Meghan and Hunter shown here with Miss Chris and Mr. Beauvais

Everyone enjoyed looking at the photos Mr. Beauvais brought in...Hunter

Mr. Beauvais was a nice man. He was different from what I expected. I didn't think he would be so energetic. He was lucky to be in wars and not get shot. People were very poor back then...Justin

Mr. Beauvais was a very nice man. His stories were very good. I enjoyed talking to him and learning about what it was like in his days, 77 years ago. I learned about the Depression and realized that I am very spoiled. I think we should do this project again so we can hear about other experiences that they had in their lifetime...Kelli

I think Mr. Beauvais is a nice person and a great storyteller. I learned what life was about back when people were really poor and what a hard life it must of been to have to work to support a family when you were so young. The most important thing that meant a lot to me was the funny stories that he told. I think we should do this more often...Todd

I did not expect Mr. Beauvais to be so energetic. He is just a great guy, and I hope he can come again. He wasn't anything I expected him to be like. He was so generious and kind. What meant the most to me was he paid a lot of attention to all of us...Tayler

It was a good experience for me to learn about his life and what it was like when he was a kid. I thought they would have had the same prices as we do for food and vehicles. I had a good time learning the past of my community...Stephanie
