Sam & Jessica

Erica and Jordan discussed the mesosphere. Their setting was a science talk show and they presented the features of the mesosphere. Jordan told the audience that the upper part of the mesosphere is the coldest region of the atmosphere and if water vapor is present thin clouds of ice will form. Erica showed the audience a poster of the layers of the atmosphere and pointed out the mesosphere. The mesosphere is important to us because this is the layer of the atmosphere where most of the meteoroids are disinigrated.

Samantha and Jessica allowed the audience to become part of their news room and to experience what it would be like if someone from the thermosphere came to earth for a visit. Jessica was the news reporter and Samantha played the part of thermosphere as she presented to the audience an imaginary perrspective of the thermosphere. Samantha informed the audience that she had two daughters, Ionosphere and Exosphere. "Ionosphere is always listening to the radio because AM radio waves reflect off her. The radio waves bounce off of the ions and back to the Earth. Exosphere is the top part of the thermospher and the atmosphere. That's where all the satellites are."

Chris, Dustin, & Derek

Kayla, Erica and Ashley play acted the events that occured on Sept. 30, 1998 at Onekama School. Kayla played the part of Mike Bloomfield and Erica acted as a news reporter. Ashley played the part of our superintendent, Beth McCarthy, and demonstrated how the whole school benefited and appreciated Mike Bloomfield's visit to Onekama Schools. Chris, Dustin and Derek set up a scientific laboratory and discussed the different features of the troposhere. Some of the features discussed included the following: The troposphere is the first layer of the atmosphere and for every 1 kilometer in altitude the temperature decreases 6.5 degress C. They also discussed convection currents and how they work.
Sarah and Jade presented The Nitrogen Cycle. They showed the audience how two school friends could help each other to prepare for a test. Their drawing of the Nitrogen Cycle allowed the audience to visualize their discussion as they discussed each step of the cycle. Samantha, Dusty, and Eleanor set up a science laboratory and discussed the importance of our ozone layer in the stratosphere. They showed how important it is for all of us to get rid of spray cans that contain CFC's.

Look at Group 2's Presentations

Ricky and Josh spoke to the audience on the topic of space shuttles. They displayed a poster and discussed different parts of a space shuttle. Josh told the audience that space shuttles are made of the external gas tanks, two solid rocket boosters and the main shuttle. Ricky pointed to the different parts of the shuttle drawing and told the audience that shuttles orbit the Earth and study the weather from the exosphere.
