Jordan Mike Bloomfeild came to my school. He talked about going into space again. He is going to take a piece of the International space station into space. He has gone into space before. He docked with the Russian space station MIR. After that he started orbiting the earth then he went back through the atmosphere and landed on a landing strip in Florida.
Erin Space Camp- I think Space Camp would be fun and also hard. I think Space Camp is good for people that want to be astronauts. Astronauts have hard life threatening jobs but Space Camp helps it to not be so hard. I know somebody that went to Space Camp her name is Kayla P. She is my friend. There are threeSpace Camps in the United States they are in Florida, California and Alabama. Kayla went to the one in Alabama. She came back with many things to tell us. She had things to show us like her plan book some patches and a astronaut suit. I want to go to Space Camp because I think it would be fun. I got interested in Space Camp when Kayla did her presentation. She inspired me into learning about being an astronaut. I hope I will be able to go to the Space Camp sometime in my life. Kayla B When we made our space shuttles we had a tournament to see whose shuttle could fly the farthest. The winners of the tournament where- Curtiss coming in first, Jordan following in 2nd place and Ryan coming in 3rd. Great job guys! We flew them a few weeks ago in September when we where learning about space and what it is like to be in space. Our space shuttles where like real shuttles because they looked and where shaped like real shuttles. They even said NASA and United States on them. Some things we could have done to make them fly better where we could have added more weight and we could have gone out on a windier day. Cari H On Wednesday September 30, Mike Bloomfield came to Onekama school. The whole school came to it, even the Arcadia school. He talked about going up to space because he is an astronaut. He said that he is going to go to space again. Last year Mrs. Lyman went to see Mike Bloomfield launch to space. He told us what it was like up in space like he told us that his space shuttle was in bad shape. And that if you spill water or any thing else you have to sip it up with a straw. Also, when you are sleeping you need a belt around you,so you don’t float all over while your sleeping. Brenen M Space Travel Do you think space travel would be difficult? I do , because what would you pack, what would you eat up in space? It would cost a lot to launch and land a space shuttle. Do you think it would be fun? I think it would be fun to go into space, because you could look out the window and look at Earth and all the other planet and their moons. I think it would be a blast! What would it be like up in space? would it be hot or cold, could you get sick and die or something? I don’t think any of that would happen, do you ? How would you get ready if you are going into space? First I would ask NASA and see what they would say. Up in space you where space suit if you leave the shuttle or if you go into the cargo bay. But when you are in the space shuttle you still where a suit but it does not have a helmet or any of that stuff. So that is what I think space travel is like. Danielle O The Voyager visited the four largest planets in our solar system. It visited Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Voyagers first stop was Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. It has 16 moons. Jupiter is made up of hydrogen and helium, the two lightest gases so it has no solid ground. Saturn was the second stop. It is a very large planet also, and like Jupiter it has no solid ground. Saturn has at least 18 moons, and three uniquck rings. Chelsea B 5...4...3...2...1... Blast off! What if you could actually hear that? I mean, you hear it a-lot, but while sitting in a space shuttle? I know that if I heard it, well, it would be amazing. Traveling into space hundreds of miles an hour. The shuttle shaking and vibrating. It would really be something! But before you could ever attempt to go into space, you would have to go through training. How long? Well, that is a good question. You would probably stay for years, training, and reading shuttle information. I have never been to a training camp, but I’m sure it would take that long. But it would be worth while. And in the 20th century, almost anything could be possible. Traveling into space, approaching the planets, traveling into a new demention, and a new world. Seeing all the planets, or, most of them would be so cool. It would be a very amazing journey, and one you would never forget. Andrea K Voyagers are machines that fly into space and send information back to Earth. Their mission now is to go to the four biggest planets in our solar system. Their first stop was Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. The planet has a great red spot. In this great red spot has violent storms. Jupiter has 16 moons (isn’t that a lot of moons). The second stop was Saturn. Saturn has over 1,000 rings around it. This planet has 18 moons! Some of the moons are Mimas, Titan, Phobe, and Hyperion. The third planet was Uranus. Uranus has some rings also. Its rings are black because the rings are made of small particles. Some of its moons are Titania, Maranda, and Oberon. The forth and final stop is Neptune. Neptune is kind of like Jupiter because it has a great dark spot with violent storms in it. Also Neptune is like Uraus too because their about the same size and very very far away from the sun. Neptune is a cold, blue planet. Well that was the end of the mission, but the voyagers keep going and going and never come back. All they send back is information.

Amber A space ship is almost like a flying motor home. I mean it has a bathroom and a bedroom and probley lots more. If you are in a space ship hang on tight because if you don’t you will find your self in the air. When it’s bed time strap in tight because there is almost no gravity up in space, and when you have to go to the bathroom you have to strap in tight there to. After you have all the straps on then it’s time to do your thing a fan will take all the waste away from the air because if you did not have that fan all the waste would be floating in the air (and that would be gross). Your food can’t make crumbs so you can’t pack crackers or anything else that makes crumbs. Cause if you did the crumbs would be floating around in the space ship. The food that you eat there is powdered. If I had a choice to go to space I really wouldn’t want to go. Not just because of the powdered food because there is to many things that could go wrong. Like if you were replacing a satellite the wire could come lose and then you would be stuck in space with nothing to eat or drink then you would die of starvation. So that’s why I don’t want to go in space I am sure that it is lots of fun doing flips in air but I still wouldn’t want to go. Gini Voyager one and two were both launched in 1977. Though launched so early,they have a long way to go to get to Jupiter (four hundred million miles). When they reached Jupiter they found out it had violent storms and had thin rings around the planet that are invisable from Earth. It is made mostly of hydrogen and helium. Voyagers left Jupiter and were on their way to Saturn. When they reached Saturn they discovered that it also had violent storms. Saturn also has rings around the planet but the colors are not as sharp as Jupiters. Saturn is also made of hydrogen and helium. Neptune and Uranus were the last planets to be visited by Voyagers.They both are very different. Neptune is very calm and Uranus is very stormy like Jupiter and Saturn. Voyagers are still in space and will send back signals until the year 2,020.
Tara L Seeing an astronaut It was fun getting to meet an astronaut. His name is Mike Bloomfield. He is a pilot for Atlantis. He showed us a picture of when he was up in space. He took a picture of lower Michigan on its side. It looked neat! He came at 2:00 and he talked with first graders. Then we had an assembly at 2:15. I hope he will come to Onekama School again. I learned a lot of things about space. Three kids from each class won a signed picture of Mike Bloomfield holding a toy space ship. I really want him to visit again. Joleen D I like the movie Space Camp. When five teens and one boy went to space camp, they went thought training and missions for about a week. They went in the space shuttle. councilors wanted them to feel what it is like to be launched. One of the rockets were over loading, so they launch the space shuttle. They looked out the window. They were in space. They had to be in space about 12 hours, but they had about less hours of oxygen left. They had to dock on the unfinished space station. Two oxygen tanks were on the unfinished space station. There trainer went out of the space shuttle. There trainer couldn’t fit though the medal posts. Then the boy went out to help. The boy was small enough to get the oxygen tanks. They had about a hour of oxygen. They got one tank in, but lost one. Both went in the space shuttle. They are ready to land , but the nose had to be 30 degree angle or they will burn up entering earth’s atmosphere. They didn’t burn up . They landed! They did pretty well. Jessica K I don’t want to be an astronaut because of the many years of training. To be an astronaut you have to be in training for eight years. Also the danger of space. If the cord from earth disconnects you would die. The food is another thing. The food is powered and doesn’t sound so good. The reason they have to eat powered food in a bag is because if they make crumbs it stays in the air and they could get sick. One other weird thing about space is they have to use vacuums to keep stuff on the table. They also must use Velcro to strap them selves in from floating away. Sometimes they have to strap their pillows in too. One other thing I won’t like about space is taking a bathing or going to the bathroom. When you take a bath you have to use sponges to wash and rinse with. Going to the bathroom, when you go to the bathroom you must strap your self in and a vacuum takes you waste down. I hope I never have to go to space. Emily B On September 30, 1998, Mike Bloomfield came to our school. The weeks before he came, we studied about space and Kayla Peabody did a report on her trip to Space Camp. Mike Bloomfield went up in space for nine days. He went to the Mir-Station, brought supplies, people to bring to stay there, and he picked up a person too. He went on the Atlantis. He said “That if you are up in space for a few months or something like that, your bones can get very weak.” The next day, Mrs. Lyman came to our room and picked names so we could get a picture of him and his autograph. He did a good job on his speech. I’m glad that he came to our school. Clinton O I am going to tell you about an outer space mission. There were two spacecraft called the Voyagers. Their mission was to travel to four planets which are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Voyager 1 launched September 5 ,1977, and Voyager 2 was launched August 20, 1977. By the time they reached Jupiter it was 1979. Two years later they reached Saturn, but Voyager 1 went to close too one of Saturn’s moons and had to go another way. In 1981 Voyager 2 reached Uranus. In 1983 Voyager 2 reached Neptune. That was the end of their mission. Voyager 2 is going out of the solar system now to discover new things.
John W Mike Bloomfield We had an astronaut come to our school. His name was Mike Bloomfield. He went up on the spaceship Atlantis, He was the pilot. Before he came we had been studying space. We studied things like spacecraft’s, EMU (extravehicular mobile unit), and stuff like that. He was very interesting. He said one day maybe we would be going to mars. He told us in space they ate food in a tube, some is powdered They had to add water to these foods, and drink from a bag with a straw. He talked about the restrooms, sleeping places, and all of his journey to the space station MIR. He also had pictures. He will be going to space again next year. I think space is very interesting. Someday I mite want to try to go up in space. |
