 Highway Clean-up was a lot of work. This was a couple of days ago in May, 99 it was sure warm that day, we went on the highway. I don't remember the road but I sure know it seemed long. There was a pretty good amount of trash out there. There was a lot of bags that were full too. Everybody in the back seemed to go really slow. But half of the reason why was because there bags were huge. One boy had a really huge bag that was full of trash, he had to carry it over his shoulders. When we were done the bus came and picked us up. We were all hot and thirsty. The good thing was, was that there were nice cold apples waiting for us. The apples seemed to cool us all down. When we got back to the school we had a half an hour of our special left, nobody really wanted to go but we did and it sure seemed short. ... Kayla G.
Wait for me! Everyone in the 5th grade cleaned up M-22. We have been doing this for four years: a long time! We get off the bus and start to clean. We did about 1 mile, and then we all got an apple from the apple storage place on 600. We are wearing the color orange because cars can see us so we won't get hit!! Mr. Finan's Group at Highway Cleanup Last Thursday we went out to cleanup the highway. There was a lot of trash. Everybody had a bag full of trash! We only walked about one mile. That's a lot of trash for one mile because there is about 50 kids in our class. We picked up stuff like iron and plastic bags. There was some glass. I picked up most of it though. Mostly it was brown but some was clear. It was really hot out that day. We were all sweating but we still were walking. When we were almost done we met the other class on the other side of the road. When we got back on the bus Mrs. Lyman gave us some apples. They were really good. We got back to school at 2:15. Everyone had to go to their next class. I think Highway Cleanup was really fun and I hope we can do it again. ...By Jessica
Mrs. Eldridge's group was terribly pleased with the attractive matching vests! On Thursday we went on the highway to clean it up. Jason, John, and I were in a group. We got three bags of trash. We started to clean by Smelter apple storage plant. Then we walked about three miles to the end of this road. We all got a lot of trash. It was easy too. Some of the stuff we found was mostly paper and plastics. The rest was other metals and materials. Some of the people on the road waved at us, so we waved back. By a pond John and I found a broken beer bottle. It was all over the ground! We had to wear these orange vests. They were so the traffic could see us. The one that I had was comfortable. But others weren't. I had a lot of fun doing this activity. We do this every year to help the environment. ... Brenen |
