MEAP Tests

Michael C.

The MEAP test is the most important test in Fourth and Fifth Grade. In Fourth Grade we take math and reading tests. In Fifth Grade the tests are writing, science, and social studies. Your test scores are saved until you graduate. My class is going to start the MEAP test January 26.

Digestion

Trevor M.

Digestion of food starts in the mouth. Then the pieces of food go down the throat into the esophagus. Next they go to the stomach. After the stomach the food goes into the small intestine and then the large intestine. Last the wastes leave the body.

Classroom Experiments

Todd L.

My class did two experiments for science. Experiment1: We filled two liters with snow. Then we estimated how much water there would be in the containers after the snow melted. It turned out to be half a container. Experiment 2: We poured water into two cups. Then we took two sugar cubes. We crushed one of them and left the other one whole. Next we put them in the two cups at the same time and stirred. The crushed sugar dissolved first.

Ski Day

Katherine V.

Every Thursday a bus goes up to Crystal Mountain Resort. You can take the bus and go skiing or snow boarding. It costs 18 dollars to rent skis and get a lift ticket. Some people just take their own skis and put them in the back of the bus. I think it is fun to go downhill skiing.

The Empty Bowl Dinner

Meghan N.

Onekama School is going to have an Empty Bowl Dinner. The bowls represent the people in the world that have no food. We made clay bowls in art class that people can buy to raise money. The money they raise will go to the Onekama Food Pantry.

Media Center

Travis M.

Monday and Wednesday after school the Media Center is open until 7:00 pm. We can go to the Media Center. We can do homework or play games on the computers. I play snap games or check my hot mail.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a fun sport in the winter. One year ago Taylor Fraly and I crashed the old snowmobile. My family got a new one. I like to drive snowmobiles. My dad and I ride around in the field behind our house.

Christmas Crafts

Stephanie C.

For Christmas we made crafts. It was fun! We made ornaments for our Christmas tree. They were little reindeer and a birch bark chain. We also made other crafts like snowmen out of cans. We painted faces on them and put scarves around their hats, too. We had lots of fun making Christmas projects.

Good Behavior Day

Jordan P.

If you have less than three demerits you can go skiing or snowboarding at Crystal Mountain February 25 or 26. Crystal has a new chair lift called the Clipper. It is the fastest chair lift at Crystal Mountain. Now there are more trails. Some are hard and some are easy. Good Behavior Day is always a lot of fun.

Snowboarding

Nathan G.

On Christmas vacation Jared and I went to Crystal Mountain. First we got on the chair lift with my brother, Drew. Then we went down Little Vincent and Jared got stuck in the trees. We had to plow him out of the deep snow. We saw a girl get hurt bad. Then we went down the back of the hill. We also went up the new chair lift called the Crystal Clipper. Next we went down Little Vincent again and Jared got hurt. So we went into the lodge to rest and have some hot chocolate.

Pets

Thomas L.

I like pets and so does my brother. Pets are just like people. They eat food. If it is a dog it eats dog food and if it is a cat it eats cat food. Pets are just like people. Only they can't talk.

Snow

Zachery F.

Snow is soft and cold. It can not hurt you. Snow can turn into ice. You can build forts with snow. If you pour water on snow it will turn into ice. Snow is fun to play in.

Snowman

Haley D.

First you make a big snowball. Then you make a medium size one. After that you make a small one. Then you get coal for the eyes, a carrot for the nose, and a banana for the mouth. To make the arms you use sticks. Then you put a hat, scarf, and the buttons on your snowman.

Snow Fort

Amber J.

At my house I built a snow fort. It was a maze. It was very easy to make. My sister built a fort, too, but it was not the same as mine. When I am waiting for the bus I go in my fort. My cousin came up with his snowboard. We made a jump in our driveway. I watched him from my fort and so did my sister.

In Nascar I like number 7. Vipers and Fords are my favorite cars. I also like to watch figure 8 racing. It is very exciting!

Snow

Danielle F.

This winter we have got a lot of snow. My brother and I have to shovel the snow off the deck at my house. The only thing that is bad about snow is that cars can get stuck in the snow. This year we have gotten over twenty inches of snow. It's fun to have a lot of snow.

Friends

Lance O.

My friends are very nice. Some of my friends are Brandon, Chris, Zack, and TJ. I like to play with my friends. It is almost my birthday. On my birthday I get to invite some friends over. My friends and I play together a lot.

Social Studies

Jared L.

The 4th grade classes are doing a report on the settlers and their houses. It took us two weeks to finish the report. Some houses have a river or pond and a fence around them. The houses have clothes line, too. We had lots of fun studying about the settlers.

Snow Forts

Kelli W.

Outside of the school building, my friends and I like to make snow forts. We also make slides that you can go on with no sled. We make tunnels and funnels. We make snowmen and snow women. I like to make slides best.

Pen Pals

Ronnie S.

We write to pen pals in Puerto Rico. Sometimes when we send our letters we send pictures. We like to get letters from our pen pals. They sometimes send pictures of themselves and their family, too. It is fun to have pen pals from another country.

Kayaking in Snow

Hunter B.

On January 1st my family and I went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We took a white water kayak with us. We went down the hill in it. We went faster than the sleds. It is fun to kayak in snow.

Sledding

Marlee H.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we have a choice to stay in or go outside sledding. Sometimes we go outside. All the girls hold hands and it is really fun. But when you go by yourself you can go really far. But now there isn't a lot of snow.

Science

Tim V.

In science we are studying the body. Right now we are learning about the circulatory system and the digestive system. At the end of the unit we will make a model of our bodies' circulatory and digestive systems using red yarn for the circulatory system and blue yarn for the digestive system.

OHS Boys Basketball

Tayler F.

The boys played the Frankfort Panthers. It was a great game but there were some bad fouls called. In the first quarter it was neck and neck. But the Portagers pulled it off. They won but not by much. Collin F. and Matt F. had 17 points. They both had four fouls, too. Collin brought them back with some three pointers. Matt scored the last points that won the game. All the boys did a great job! GO Portagers!

Mad Minutes

Ryan K.

A few weeks ago everyone in my class finished the Mad Minutes in three minutes or less. The next Monday we had a popcorn and video party. We watched the Santa Claus movie with Tim Allen.

My Sony

In Social Studies we do a lot of mapping. Today we did a map of the Southeast. Last week we did a map of the Northeast. I like to do maps. They are very fun to do.

My Life in Winter

Evan M.

When I get home I study my spelling words. Then I feed the horse. When I am done I'll play in the snow. After that I ask my dad to start the snowmobile. I may get stuck in the snow. When I'm done riding the snowmobile, I go in the house and eat dinner.

Cars

Jesse S.

I like cars. My favorite kind of car is a Viper. Vipers are very fast. My next favorite car is a Lamborgini. Lamborginis cost a lot of money. A Ferrari is my third favorite. I would like to have one of these cars some day.

Snow

Nathan M.

Snow is fun to play with. You can build snowmen with snow. To build a snowman you have to make three snowballs and put them on top of each other. Then you can use a carrot for the the nose and two buttons for the eyes. You can also put other things on a snowman like a hat or scarf.

Mapping

Jake W.

Mapping is a lot of fun. We do mapping in social studies. When we do mapping we do our best. We use colored pens like red, green, blue, and black. We learn a lot when we do maps.

Snowboarding

Brandon S.

There are a variety of tricks you can do on a snowboard such as a nosegrab, tailgrab, mctwist, indy grab spins, mute grab, lein air, and a shifty. My favorite thing to do on a snowboard is a halfpipe. I ride my snowboard down a trail. Then I go five feet in the air and land.

Skiing

Nick S.

Skiing is fun when you know how. You get to go down hills. You get to go as long as you want. When you get cold you can go inside. When your inside you can eat and play games as long as you want. But when it's time to go, you have to quit playing the games. When I go home I miss skiing.

Winter

Ryan H.

In winter snow falls like a white blanket that covers the land. You can make forts and men if the snow is deep enough. It snows mostly in the north. In the winter the snowshoe hare can hide with its white fur. In a blizzard the snow can reach twelve inches or more. I like the season of winter best.
