The Man

by Ricky C

One dark and stormy night Zack Flyer was walking home from Alex Dukne's house when all of the sudden a man ran across the road. Zack was frightened, so he ran all the way home and went right to bed.

The next day Zack couldn't stop thinking about the man he saw. At school his friends thought something was wrong with him, so they asked him and Zack told them. His friends thought he was crazy now.

Later that night, there was a full moon. Zack was spending the night as Alex's house. Alex's parents were at a party, so the two boys were home alone. All of the sudden they heard a knock on the door. Zack opened the door, there was nothing there. Zack said to Alex, "I'm going out there!" Zack went outside and ran to the cemetery where he saw the man again. This time he chased the man and grabbed him. He took out his pocket knife and slashed through his jacket to reveal the man's identity. Then Zack saw that the man was an undercover detective on a case.

The next day Zack told everyone about what he saw. Then everybody thought he was even more crazy. Later that night, Zack was at home doing his homework. When he was done, he went to Alex's house. The boys figured out the knocking was a tree branch. Then they all went home and never worried again. (January 1998)
