D.A.R.E

Josh V

COOL! Officer O'Hagan came to our class and We had D.A.R.E. for five weeks. We learned about not using drugs and how to say NO. We all liked D.A.R.E.

Jade, Sam G, Erica J, and I were the top four students so we got prizes. Jade was the highest score of the girls, (I was the highest ever.) and Josh, (me) had the highest of the boys. Sam and Erica were second place winners. Jade and I got a calculator. Sam got a sports bottle and Erica got a mug. IT WAS REALLY FUN. P.E. Class

Dusty A.

Mr. Thorr is our gym teacher. He is a good teacher. In gym we play basketball, football, and dodgeball. When we play dodgeball, the boys win almost every game. We play flag football. In flag football youhave to grab the other person’s flag. They keep their flag right by their waist. It is just like tackling, but you don’t really tackle them, you grab their flag. In basketball we just shoot around or we play lightning and pig.

Boys vs Girls

Chris N.

Three days a week we go to the gym before lunch. When we get there the girls get their starter basketball players: Mary Lynn, Sarah, Jade, Sam and Erica Jach. Then the boys get their players: Brandon, Dustin, Chris, Josh V. and Josh K. Then we play each other. The girls usually win, but sometimes the boys win. Most of the games the boys get fouled and the boys don’t get any foul shots. There isn’t a referee. When the girls hardly get touched they call foul. We put up with it because that’s our favorite sport and we like to play. And we are gentlemen!

Basketball

Mary Lynn B.

Our coach’s name is Becky Bradford. She is really nice. She plays games with us. We win prizes like candy. If we win the games. Sometimes she makes us dribble a lot but it is fun because we play games when we dribble.

In practice we have been doing fun stuff. We have practice every Monday and Wednesday. Practice is in the Arcadia gym . We’ve been doing our left hand lay-ups. We’re getting better at them. We got our uniforms at Arcadia school when we had practice. They are small on us. I think they shrunk.

We won all our games against other fifth grades so far.Two times we had to play against sixth grade. We lost but we kept up with them. I hope we win in the future. We are doing great so far. (Team Record and Photo)

Our Coach

Erica S.

My basketball coach is very nice to me and the girls. She does not yell at all. Becky is Mary’s sister, Mary’s oldest sister. She teaches us how to play basketball. She teaches us how to do a jump stop, lay up, a stack, and a fake pass. She likes to play basketball and she likes to teach basketball. Becky is really supportive and she likes us a lot. Well, I hope we have a nice coach like her again next year.

Maggie is so Cute

Stacey

I love Maggie’s golden hair. I think she is a cute little dog. I wonder, does Maggie like school? What does she learn in school? Her owner, Mrs. McCarthy, is sweet, just like Maggie. I wonder what Mrs. McCarthy is teaching Maggy?

Maggie sleeps in a black cage at school and at Mrs. Mc Carthy’s house.

Maggie, the school dog, comes to my house, and she likes to play with my little dog Cody. When we go down by the cows, we put the lead on her and when she goes home, she goes right to sleep.

Maggie, Our School Dog

Erica J.

I think Maggie, the school dog, has the finest hair of all the city. I think that she should be in the prettiest dog contest. I love the brown highlights in Maggie’s golden hair. I like it when Maggie comes to our classroom, when Mrs. Eldridge lets her. I think the cute little Halloween scrunchy on Maggie’s collar. Maggie’s collar has a cute little ghost saying boo on it. I think Maggie looks cute when she sleeps in her kennel. Maggie’s kennel is black with a sheet over it for when she sleeps. I bet Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy are very proud of Maggie. I think that Mrs. McCarthy and I did a good job of teaching her how to shake your paw. It’s funny how everybody is calling her our school mascot. I think she is our school mascot too.

New Classroom

Dustin

I am in fifth grade. This year my whole class has a new classroom. the best thing about it is that it has a movable wall. In the morning the wall is put together, but in the afternoon my teacher takes the wall down and we are together. The wall is there to split two classrooms apart. I think the wall is made of metal.

We also have our own TV. My teacher hooks it up to another TV. Then both TV's show the same thing. That's what I like. And last, but not least, in our classroom we have brand new chairs. The chairs are green, my favorite color.

Wow! Look at them work!

by Jade

The beautiful young ladies in the picture are at The Onekama Food Pantry helping the needy. Jade, MaryLynn and Sam packed all those apples. They also helped flatten a big pile of cardboard for recycling. When they were waiting for more stuff to do they got to eat as many cookies as they wanted!! Yum Yum! It was a fun day. (To see the young ladies working go to the Food Pantry Page)

Band

Jackson C.

PRRRRRRRHTPT! That is only one of the many notes that beginners at Onekama Consolidate Schools play. Our rehearsals are coming up soon so I hope everyone can come. There will be refreshments after we play. If you have a student in the band and you would like to know more about the instrument your child plays, look at the assignment sheet that was sent home by the band director. The band director is Mr. Larry Thompson. This is going to be his fourth year teaching band. He teaches kindergarten through 12th and directs the high school marching band. Remember always to get the school news. Happy Halloween.

Pen Pal

Ashley Ann J.

I have a pen pal from Puerto Rico. She has Mrs. Robinson for a teacher, and she likes Mrs. Robinson very much. Mrs. Robinson, my last year’s teacher, wanted to teach English in Puerto Rico. So that’s why she went there.

Mrs. Robinson sent Mrs. Eldridge pen pal letters for fifth graders. I can’t wait until my pen pal answers my letter. My pen pal wanted me to come to Puerto Rico, but I told her I couldn’t. I don’t like going on boats on water. I do not like to fly either.

My pen pal likes books that are mysteries. Her name is Alexandra. She told me that Puerto Rico has beautiful beaches and sunny days. There are many interesting places in Puerto Rico.--anyway that’s what she told me.

I used to have a pen pal from Manton, Michigan. Sometimes I still write to her. It is really nice to have a pen pal. Now I have two.

Creating a Skit

Eleanor V.

Scott, Erica and I make a skit at school. Skits are lots of fun, but they are hard work. It wasn’t all fun. We had to look some information up too. I had to hide in a huge old cardboard box that served as our space craft. We were doing a skit that we were going to Pluto. We forgot to get our alien in the space ship so someone had to run out and get it. We pulled on a string and a yellow comet hit us. I clomped out in a white jeacket and an old snow mobile helmet holding an old hose and pretended to fix it. I was hot! Then it was scene 2.

We worked along time on our back drop for scene 1 but it was worth it. We pasted hundreds (at least it felt like that) of tiny little squares of yellow construction paper on to a huge sheet of black paper. Then scene 1 was ready.

Art Class is Fun

Sarah

I like art class because you do lots of fun things like drawing painting, coloring and cutting. Our teacher for art is Ms Woolman. She is very, very, very nice. We are drawing pictures for the school calendar . We are drawing things that you see or things that you do in April. It is fun. And there is a calendar that you get points on if you are good in art class. What ever class gets the most points wins a popcorn and movie party. Art is really fun.

OM is Neat

Jade

In OM you do fun stuff like one time you had to pretend that you were stranded on an island. All you had was a stack of old newspaper. You had five minutes to make a shelter. It was so hard! One team took a lot of newspaper and crumpled it up. Then they got under a pile. Each player on my team grabbed a few newspapers and covered up with each other’s heads. My team won because the other team either did something wrong or had taken too long. It takes a lot of teamwork!

OM tournaments are where someone finds a coach and gathers up a team of seven people or less. Here are some of the problems that our division can do: Pageant Wagon, Morph Magic, Marvelous Mentor and more. That’s just about all I know so far in OM! I hope that I will be in OM for the following years to come.
